A slow read for the new year

Wondering how this works?—or now that the “live” version is over, how it worked? Every day for seventy days we read a chapter or two of The Brothers Karamazov — any edition (or editions, if you’re ambitious!). Each day on our own time we read the current chapter or chapters and everyone was (and still is) invited to share thoughts and raves and tangential resources, whatever strikes you, in conversation on the post for that day’s reading. The posts are brief — the comments and conversations are where this way of reading together comes alive.

Start late? Miss a few days? Get ahead? Fall behind? No problem. The conversation continues and catching up is easy.

This practice of daily reading together is based on slow reads hosted by A Public Space with their ongoing APS Together. Born on Twitter in March 2020, with a reading of War and Peace, APS Together later migrated to Substack back when so many of us did. Check out their archive — it’s a treasure trove.
